STATEMENT

I transform materials that are discarded or naturally available into objects that become meaningful and interact with the viewer and surroundings. My recent studio based pieces, are made either made from disassembled, obsolete technology, e.g. old computers, video players, or natural found or discarded objects. For example, seashells, discarded either by the creature that once inhabited them, or after a meal. I have also made site specific pieces, using natural materials from the area, e.g. willow and manmade materials, such as wool, sourced from charity shops.

I want to create work that allows the viewer to look more intentionally at the area it has been created in, or in the case of gallery pieces, contemplate aspects of human and animal’s behaviour and characteristics. I particularly enjoy combining my pieces so that they have a dialogue between the objects.

It is as important, to celebrate what is valuable, good and hilarious in the world, as to criticize what is thoughtless, banal and cruel. While, I intend my work to be thought provoking, it is also essential that I can create objects that are gratifying and satisfying for the audience.
